What Is eMAR in Home Care?

An eMAR, or electronic Medication Administration Record, replaces the paper MAR chart kept in a client's home. It records which medicines a person takes, the dose and timing, and for every visit whether each dose was given, refused, missed or late, and by whom.

For a home care agency the difference is where that record lives. A paper chart sits in the client's folder until someone collects it. An eMAR updates the moment a carer records a dose, so the office sees gaps the same day instead of at the next audit.

How eMAR Works in Aim

1. Add the prescription. Pick each medicine from the NHS dm+d database, or snap the prescription or MAR sheet and let Aim Assist fill it in for you to review.
2. Set the schedule. Doses, times, PRN protocols with daily limits, and body maps for creams and patches.
3. Record at the visit. Carers see what's due on the carer app and record each dose as given, refused or not given, with a reason.
4. Catch problems early. Missed and late doses alert the office straight away, and stock counts warn you before a medicine runs low.
5. Review and evidence. Managers see every MAR chart live, with a full audit trail of who recorded what and when.
